Ryder created the hair looks for Little Brother Autumn/Winter 08 at the Little Brother Loves Mala show at St Paul’s Church on Symonds St in Auckland in March. Hair Director Greg Murrell was given a brief of 4 distinct categories of 4 models each for the show. These were: Turds/nerds, Stoners/metallers, prefects and Toughs/Biffs. Playing with these references, hairstyles were created in homage to the characters found in our schooldays. Click here to view images from the show.

We are pleased to announce that Belinda Murrell has returned to Ryder as a Specialist Colourist, after 2 years travelling the country working for Goldwell as a Colour Educator. This involved visiting salons and educating them on product performance and colour techniques. Belinda is passionate about colour and has a wealth of experience in colour selection and correction and is now available for bookings.

In May, the Ryder Artistic Team travelled to Sydney to create the hair for Zambesi at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week for the sixth year in succession. Designer Elisabeth Findlay presented a simple collection which featured short skirt lengths, 60's shapes and clean graphic lines with a monochrome palette.

Complementing this simplicity, Hair Director Greg Murrell concocted a simple backcombed up-do with height at the back. It seemed timely to revisit the up-do, seemingly ignored in recent seasons, to utilise the graphic silhouette and controlled volume possible with this look. No mere parody of a "Ladies" style however, this version avoided looking too pretty as the hair was not over-finished, thus appearing like the models could have constructed it themselves. And with this a contemporary slant on a hairstyle with much historical precedence.

See how we created this look.

In his role as Kms California Artistic Director for New Zealand, Greg Murrell presented Hair Industry educational seminars in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch in April. These presentations are designed to educate and inspire the attendees.
