Established in Central Auckland in 1999 by founder Greg Murrell, Ryder has quickly become one of New Zealand's most renowned salons. Our hair styling philosophy is one of purity. We acknowledge the traditional craft of hairdressing without being restricted by it. We change our methodology whenever it feels appropriate in order to avoid being dull and repetitious. We simply seek to create the most modern hair and to offer an unparalleled client experience.

At Ryder creativity is respected and styling techniques are fostered. Our people are encouraged to be individual and free in their expression and their professional advancement is fully supported.

Whilst we participate in selected competitions we don’t believe it to be the sole method of defining a hairdresser’s talent. We prefer to concentrate on our relationship with the fashion industry where hair is an inherent part of the overall image.

Modern hair is no longer just about straight or curly; it’s all the textures in between, a feeling rather than a trend. At Ryder we take a relaxed, natural and intuitive approach to hair. Whilst we enjoy working with the latest fashion mood we believe that hair should be individual, uncontrived and easy to style. It’s about getting your hair texture to work for you, whatever the shape or form.

CUT - Our stylists have a developed sensitivity enabling them to relate to the true character of your hair. They may decide to cut your hair wet or dry. Dry cutting uses freehand methods to produce looser, versatile shapes with increased texture. To cut dry, a stylist needs first a solid knowledge of wet cutting techniques. Wet cutting is used where a more controlled, classic result is desired. Sometimes we will use a combination of both techniques. Ask one of our stylists which method would be right for you. Generally, we favour a softer feeling.

COLOUR - We use colour to animate our haircuts. Colour should work with the way your hair moves and reflects light. We calculate the depth, tone and intensity appropriate to your natural hair colour. Skilful technique and placement are then used to enhance the shape, texture and to create shine. From a simple enlivening of your natural tone to a more dramatic and fashionable change, colour really completes the look.
