How to create this look
The brief was for a modern take on a simple hair-up. One that was elegant and constucted but with a dis-sheveled austerity. To make it modern, it was important to have a beautiful sense of looseness to it. If it was too tightly constructed, it might look like a trad ball hair-up which would be the wrong feeling. So, the hair around the hairline was not groomed too precisely. The top has a looseness too. We wanted it to look like the girl’s did it themselves.
Hair was sectioned around the head from low hairline to low hairline with the top pinned away.
The bottom section was divided in two, vertically at the back. These sections are loosely backbrushed. Kms California Dry Wax was applied for some hold and then the hair was smoothed backwards into 2 ponytails which were twisted high and secured with elastics.
Another elastic was then used to create one ponytail out of the two.
The top section was released and subsections of this are back-brushed in a backwards motion to the roots for height and hold.

Dry Wax was then applied liberally to the whole top section which was then brushed backwards gently. Taking care to mould some height at the crown, the top section and the ends of the ponytail were rolled under and fixed at the occipital to suit the individual’s head shape.
